The shooting struggles continue for the Youngstown State women’s basketball team.
The Penguins shot poorly for the second game in a row in an 86-40 loss to Bowling Green on Wednesday. The team shot just 25 percent from the field.
The Penguins (0-2) lost 78-58 to Pittsburgh in their opener Nov. 12 . YSU shot 27 percent in that contest.
Bowling Green (2-1) shot 42 percent and had scoring runs to open both halves. The Falcons outrebounded the YSU 56-30.
The Penguins also struggled from the 3-point line for the second-consecutive game. YSU was 3-of-26.
YSU sophomore forward Brandi Brown led the team in points for the second game. She scored 12 and brought down three rebounds and had an assist.
Senior guard Bojana Dimitrov was second on the team in points with seven.
Bowling Green was led by Lauren Prochaska, who had a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds. Last year’s Mid-American Conference player of the year also added three assists in her 24 minutes on the court. Also scoring in the double figures for the Falcons were Maggie Hennegan (14) and Allison Papenfuss (11). Danielle Havel brought down six rebounds.
Canfield High graduate Jillian Halfhill scored three points in 13 minutes for the Falcons.
The YSU women will open their home schedule at the Beeghly Center on Saturday against IPFW. The game will start at 1:05 p.m.
