Gun confiscated from Laurel student
Staff report
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Officials at Laurel High School in Hickory Township took a loaded gun off a student Wednesday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police report.
The 17-year-old, whose name was not released, told other students he had the gun concealed in his waistband. The other students told school officials, who confronted him and called police at 2:30 p.m., the report says.
Police said it doesn’t appear that the student intended to use the .25 caliber gun at school. He apparently wanted the gun for protection concerning an after-school, off-grounds confrontation, they said. No students were threatened, police said.
A juvenile petition was filed against the student. He was charged with having a gun without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, and possession of a weapon on school property. He was taken to the Krause Juvenile Center in New Castle.
