Commutation was appalling

Commutation was appalling

I am appalled by what I have just read that our governor has commuted the death sentence of Sidney Cornwell.

What makes me even angrier is that I voted to keep Strickland in office instead of Kasich. I guess I was driven in the wrong direction by honor and past history.

What should happen now is that Strickland should be made to take the pension paid by us Ohio taxpayers and have to pay for this murderer staying the rest of his natural born life in our state prison system.

Not only that, but Strickland has just opened the door for all of the other murdering inmates in the State of Ohio, including Danny Hill, to receive the same sentence due to the governor taking the law into his own hands.

My prayers go out to this child who never had the chance to have a say in what should be done to the person who took her life and for those that are left behind to grieve again, going to sleep each night wanting to know why her killer is being given the five-star treatment.

I hope Strickland has many sleepless nights, and wish I could take back my vote.

A time to give thanks

This column is designed to provide readers with an opportunity to comment on subjects of general interest, and it is not practical to use letters of thanks throughout the year. The people of the Mahoning Valley are a generous lot and at any given time benefits are being held and acts of kindness extended to many people in need.

But as Thanksgiving approaches, we invite letters of thanks for use next Thursday, and possibly through the weekend. We ask that the letters be brief and that all the normal guidelines in the box above be followed. Thank you. — Ed.
