Casey Hill honored

INDIANAPOLIS

Youngstown State’s Casey Hill has earned the Horizon League women’s diver of the week citation for Nov. 9-15.

Hill, a sophomore, won both diving events on Friday when YSU met Bowling Green.

She earned a 267.00 in the 1-meter dive while scoring 276.25 in the 3-meter dive.

Hill has won diver of the week honors for two consecutive weeks and three times on the season.

Risbeck rolls 300 game

Michael Risbeck, a senior at Salem High School, rolled a 300 game at Hunt Club Lanes.

He was playing in the Junior-Senior League.

Carney in Queen of Diamonds Showcase

Megan Carney of Fitch High School was selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase North at Kent State Univ.

The event will be held Jan. 8-9, 2011.

OHSAA Foundation basketball games

Marlington High School will play at Fitch High on Nov. 24 in OHSAA Foundation basketball games.

The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys follow at 8 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit the OHSAA Foundation and the Hoops 4 Healing Foundation.

Mercyhurst wide receiver and punt returner Trevor Kennedy has been named the PSAC West offensive player of the year while teammate Bryan Boyce, a linebacker, has been named the PSAC West defensive player of the year.

California defensive lineman Darnell Harding has been tabbed the PSAC West freshman of the year while Mercyhurst head coach Marty Schaetzle has been named the PSAC West coach of the year for the second time in the Lakers’ three years in the PSAC.

Michigan star signs with Buckeyes

A day after blitzing No. 9 Florida, No. 4 Ohio State won again.

Amir Williams, a 6-foot-10 center from Birmingham, Mich., rated among the top big men in the country, signed a letter of intent with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.

Williams averaged 15 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.8 blocked shots per game last season for Detroit Country Day. He had narrowed his choices to Florida and Ohio State.

He joins LaQuinton Ross (6-8 from Jackson, Miss.), Shannon Scott (6-2 from Alpharetta, Ga.), Sam Thompson (6-6 from Chicago) and Trey McDonald (6-9 from Battle Creek, Mich.) in one of the top freshman classes in the nation for the 2011-12 season.

Zagunis may have long fencing future ahead

NEW YORK

Mariel Zagunis could see herself fencing at four or five Olympics.

The two-time defending world and Olympic champion hasn’t made plans beyond the 2012 London Games, but the American wants to keep competing as long as it feels right.
