Medicare options

The Ohio Department of Insurance’s Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) is traveling the state through the end of the year to help eligible Ohioans, family members and caregivers understand the different Medicare coverage options and available financial assistance, and to provide help with plan selection. OSHIIP’s free “Medicare Check-up Days” are scheduled to coincide with Medicare’s annual election period, which runs through Dec. 31. Medicare coverage selected will begin Jan. 1, 2011. A listing of Medicare Check-Up Days is available on the department’s website at www.insurance.ohio.gov.

For a listing of Part D and Medicare Advantage plans, visit www.medicare.gov. Those who need enrollment assistance and/or information about financial assistance programs can call OSHIIP at 800-686-1578 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Flu vaccine

YOUNGSTOWN

Pembrooke Place Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center, 850 East Midlothian Blvd., is offering flu vaccine Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no charge for Medicaid and Medicare recipients. The cost for others is $20. Today is the deadline to make a reservation by calling Pembrooke Place at 330-788-3038.

Flu-shot clinic

MINERAL RIDGE

A flu shot clinic is offered at the First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., on Nov. 28 from noon to 2 p.m. for community residents age 14 and older. The cost for the shots will range from $24.99 to $29.95, depending on how many people sign up. Those with Medicare or Medicaid will be free.

Preregistration is necessary for people covered by insurance. Applications are available at the church Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Sunday morning, and must be filled and returned to the church by Tuesday. For more information, call 330-652-5712.

Eat ‘n Park Restaurants’ 31st annual “Caring for Kids” fund-raising campaign is in progress at area Eat ‘n Park Restaurants to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Fund-raising events will vary by location and will include “Tips for Tots” nights, raffles, prizes, games and more. Reservations are not needed. Annual vigil

L.O.S.S. (Loving Outreach Surviving Suicide) and S.O.S. (Survivors of Suicide of Help Hotline) will have the 12th annual candlelight vigil in remembrance of loved ones who died by suicide Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1401 Moncrest N.W.
