COLUMBIANA

Ginny Perkins’ phone was ringing again in her office Wednesday.

She’s the executive for the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce, which is involved in the city’s “Christmas in Columbiana.”

The programs will run starting today and will go through Sunday.

People were calling her office for information about how to get in on the fun.

Events will begin at 6:30 p.m. today with a lighting ceremony on the square. At 7 p.m., the “Joy of Christmas” drive-through light show will open in Firestone Park. The cost is $5 per vehicle.

City workers were adding the finishing touches to the lights Wednesday. The light show is presented by the Columbiana chamber and its tourism bureau, with support from the Mahoning County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Proceeds will go to restore Firestone Park’s Funland and to the local Toys for Tots campaign.

Also at 7:30 p.m. today, the President’s Own Marine Corps Band will play at the Methodist Church.

On Friday, merchants will be ready for business from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Columbiana Women’s Club Christmas Home Tour and Brunch will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Perkins said, “Saturday will be the most fun.”

On Saturday, Santa will be in the parade starting at 10 a.m. on Main Street. Grace Church will provide hot chocolate after the parade, and musicians will be strolling downtown.

City Manager Keith Chamberlin said the city always gets involved in the activities.

This year, part of the wiring to the indoor-park pavilion building where Santa will welcome children shorted out but will be repaired in time.
