POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Nov. 14

Theft: A North Highland Avenue woman reported her debit and identification cards were missing.

Theft: A Blackberry device, a global- positioning-system unit and a digital camera were taken from a vehicle in the 200 block of South Davis Street, for a $900 loss.

Criminal mischief: Someone attempted to cut a phone line to a home in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue.

Nov. 15

Theft: Police issued a summons to 32-year-old Benjamin Lewis III of Washington Avenue, Girard, after a 24-ounce can of beer was stolen from Santisi’s IGA Super Center, 419 N. State St.

Theft: Officers got a report of a stolen bicycle near U.S. Route 422.

Burglary: To a residence in the 30 block of Front Street through a window. Stolen were an Xbox 360 system, 25 Xbox games and other related items, for a $1,300 loss.

Fraud: An East Second Street man found out his personal information had been used without consent to open a phone-company account. He also discovered a $228 unauthorized charge.

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at and poured flour on two cars in the 10 block of Smith Court.

HUBBARD

Nov. 11

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to enter Glod’s Muffler Tire & Radiator, 312 W. Liberty St.

Harassment: A Hillview Drive woman said a neighbor yelled racial slurs at her daughter.

Nov. 12

Domestic violence: Eddie Brooks, no age given, of 52 S. Main St., Hubbard, was charged with the crime after Brooks’ mother alleged he had bitten her during a fight.

Nov. 13

Criminal mischief: Police received a report of several juveniles smashing pumpkins in the 2000 block of Meadowland Drive then gave a warning to several of the youngsters.

Nov. 15

Robbery: An employee with Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St., told police a man in a black hoodie and nylon stocking over his face robbed the store, though she was unable to determine if he had a weapon.

Robbery: A South Main Street man told police another man had entered the accuser’s garage, stated he had a gun and demanded a ride.

Vandalism: Property damage was reported in the 20 block of Rebecca Avenue.

Forgery: A School Street woman reported receiving such a check.

LIBERTY

Nov. 10

Criminal damaging: A Green Acres Drive woman saw that someone had fired at least one round at her car, damaging its front and rear windshields.

Menacing: A West Montrose Avenue woman reported her former husband sat in his vehicle and watched her place of employment.

Arrest: Weathersfield police handed to township authorities 26-year-old Richard J. Hall Jr., 977 Sodom-Hutchings Road, Vienna. He was accused of failing to appear in court to face two drug-related charges.

Identity theft: A Youngstown woman alleged her sister had used her identity when detained after a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

Nov. 11

Recovered property: Police got a call regarding two abandoned 26-inch bicycles on the road near Mansell Drive.

Theft: Mark A. Thompson, 28, of 1608 Market St., Youngstown, was charged with stealing a pair of black gloves and a firearm from Walmart.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed from a car in the 4100 block of Logan Gate Road.

Aggravated menacing: A student at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, reported a fellow student threatened on a school bus to beat her up.

Nov. 12

Threats: An official with W.S. Guy Middle School, 4115 Shady Road, told police an irate parent threatened over the phone to harm him if the parent’s son continued to be harassed by another student.

Harassment: A Green Acres Drive woman said she received unwanted text messages, some implying bodily harm.

Theft/drugs: James Shaffer, 39, no address listed, was charged with theft and drug abuse after two packages of tire caps, drill bits and other merchandise were stolen from Advance Auto Parts, 3179 Belmont Ave. Two tablets for which Shaffer admitted having no prescription were found, a report said.

Nov. 13

Menacing: A Greenbriar Drive woman reported getting about 12 harassing calls, including one threatening bodily harm.

Nov. 14

Robbery: Police responded to a possible carjacking at a Belmont Avenue motel, where a Batavia man said another man had jumped into his minivan and demanded a ride to a hospital. The suspect fled, and the victim was not injured.

Theft: A GPS device and a power cord were missing from a vehicle in the 300 block of Yvonne Drive.

Arrest: Youngstown State University police handed 28-year-old Rory J. Stephenson, 131 Roslyn Drive, Youngstown, to Liberty authorities. Stephenson was wanted on charges of theft and criminal trespassing.

Arrest: Police responded to a vehicle crash near Sampson Road, where they took 30-year-old Deland E. Quarles, 5150 Sampson, into custody on charges of driving under the influence and operating a vehicle while impaired.

Nov. 15

Assault/criminal trespassing: A Green Acres Drive woman reported two people entered her apartment uninvited and pushed her 6-year-old daughter, causing a cut and swelling to the girl’s lip.

Attempted auto theft: Someone tried to steal a 1991 Buick LeSabre near Colonial Drive.

Arrest: Authorities charged 36-year-old Darlene Mihalko, 703 Trumbull Ave., Girard, with inducing panic and making false alarms, both misdemeanors. Several employees of Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2704 Belmont Ave., reported Mihalko had yelled and joked that the store was being robbed to get the attention of a clerk.
