Fatal fire victim identified

GREEN — Ohio Fire Marshal’s investigators continue to probe the cause of a Tuesday morning fire at 8129 West Road, in Green Township near Salem, in which a 67-year-old man died.

Dr. Joseph Ohr of the Mahoning County Coroner’s office said the man was identified as Richard Yarwood of Green Township. Dr. Ohr said Yarwood died of smoke inhalation. There was no sign of trauma or anything suspicious, he added.

The fire marshal’s office said the blaze began at 3:23 a.m. in a multifamily dwelling that had six units, four of them occupied. Occupants in the other units were able to escape without injury. Smoke alarms were present and did activate, according to fire investigators.
