Woman reports rape
YOUNGSTOWN
Police are investigating the reported rape of a 53-year-old South Side woman at a vacant house on the city’s East Side.
The woman told police she was at a bar on Wilson Avenue about 4 a.m. Sunday and asked a man she knew only by a first name to take her home.
The man, she told officers, instead drove her to the driveway of an abandoned home, pulled a knife on her and ordered her to perform a sex act.
The man ordered the woman out of the car somewhere near Campbell after the attack. The woman reported the incident to an officer conducting a traffic stop.
Graduation fair
GIRARD
A graduation fair is planned Thursdayat Girard High School, 1244 Shannon Road. Dr. Joe Rottenborn of Mahoning Valley College Access Program will speak at 7 p.m.
The fair continues until 8:30. The event will include information on financial aid, commencement and cap-and-gown orders.
School construction
BROOKFIELD
The Brookfield Local School District will have a community open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the new building construction site, 614 Bedford Road.
A tour of the buildings under construction will be offered. However, the site is still under construction, and some areas will not be open for viewing.
Members of the administrative and construction team will be present to answer questions about the project.
Participants should park in the Brookfield High School parking lot. Bus service to the construction site will be provided.

Railroad information
YOUNGSTOWN
The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board will accept applications for information concerning railroad retirement, survivor, Medicare, unemployment or sickness benefits from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Social Security office, 354 E. Federal St.
Call 877-772-5772 to schedule an appointment. Those without an appointment will be assisted as time permits.

Circle K robbery

A man robbed the Circle K market, 211 W. Liberty St., of an undetermined amount of money and Newport cigarettes at 2:42 a.m. Monday.
Christmas assistance
YOUNGSTOWN
The deadline to sign up for the Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program in Mahoning County is Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
People seeking help must be Mahoning County residents. Adults and children 15 and older will count toward the household’s food voucher, and children from birth to 18 will be eligible for toys.
Applicants must have a valid picture identification for every adult member of the household, proof of guardianship for all minors and Social Security cards for everyone in the household, proof of all income including food stamps, utility bills and rental or lease agreements. Call 330-746-8403.
Burglary reported
STRUTHERS
A Lowellville Road woman reported a burglar in her home, but he took off with $1,000 before police arrived.
Police reported that the 67-year-old woman called at 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
She told police she heard her door being kicked in and heard a bell she had on it ring. Her dog began to bark, and she yelled to the intruder that she had a gun.
Her purse with the money in it was taken from the kitchen. Police said the burglar had cut a screen door on the porch and forced the door open.
Attempted carjacking
HUBBARD
An attempted carjacking took place at 7:42 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of South Main Street. A man went into his unattached garage, and a man came up behind him and demanded keys to the car.
The suspect told the resident he wanted to go to the intersection of Jacobs and McGuffey roads.
The resident did not see a gun, but the suspect kept his hand in his pocket. The resident drove the suspect to the intersection, where he fled on foot. The victim was unharmed.

Mahoning Valley Association of Churches will sponsor its 25th annual Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 23 at Mahoning Country Club.
Keynote speaker will be Dr. Cynthia Anderson, president of Youngstown State University.

Man killed by tree
PERRY
Richard Grace, 26, of Salem died after he was hit by a tree he was cutting down.
The Perry Township Police Department responded to the end of Salem Parkway West at about 11:51 a.m. Saturday where Grace was pinned.
Emergency workers removed the tree and took Grace to the Salem Community Hospital. The Salem police and fire departments helped the township safety forces.
Brian Fullum, an investigator for Columbiana County Coroner Dr. William Graham Jr., said a friend had let Grace cut some trees.
Fullum said that a ruling on the death will be made after autopsy tests are complete.
