Every November, on the day that the new wine from the Beaujolais region is released, the French celebrate.
Nouvelle Beaujolais is France’s biggest celebration, with merry-making in bistros in every city and village.
This year, the celebration is spreading to Youngstown. Overture, the restaurant inside DeYor Performing Arts Center, downtown, will have its first Nouvelle Beaujolais event Friday.
The restaurant plans to re-create the fun and French culture with music, food and wine.
Entertainment will include a show by singer Tracy Schuler titled “Joie De Vivre.” It will include songs made famous by Edith Piaf and music from Broadway shows, including “Les Miserables” and “Can Can” and the movie “Moulin Rouge.”
Schuler, a performer, director, choreographer and producer, has worked with “The Phantom of the Opera” European tour, Nickelodeon, MTV, Paramount Pictures and ABC’s “Extreme Home Makeover.” She is a Youngstown native.
Guests will dine on coq au vin, beef bourguinon and sole florentine and sip the Beaujolais, which Overture owner Jeff Chrystal has had imported from France.
