Golden Corral restaurant, evacuated Friday after a carbon-monoxide leak, is reopened for business.
The restaurant at 1025 N. Hermitage Road was evacuated about 1:30 p.m. Friday as a result of the leak. Several people were taken to area hospitals for medical treatment. About 75 people were eating there when it was evacuated.
The restaurant reopened for business Saturday afternoon.
Free hearing tests
Centers for Hearing Care, with offices throughout the Mahoning Valley, will provide free hearing screenings and is urging people with diabetes to get their hearing checked.
The effort ties in with the Better Hearing Institute’s support of World Diabetes Day, which is today.
The free screenings will be Wednesday by Dr. Sheryl Figliano, doctor of audiology, and her staff. People will be able to find out if they have a hearing loss that may be related to their diabetes.

KSU information nights
SALEM
Kent State University Salem Campus, 2491 state Route 45, will have an information night for prospective students at 6 p.m. Thursday in the campus lecture hall.
Those attending can learn about the university’s admission process, academic majors and financial aid.
Participants also will be given a tour of the campus.
Individuals who apply for admission to Kent State Salem during the event will have the $30 application fee waived.
Between Kent State University East Liverpool Campus and Kent State Salem, 29 degrees are offered, including 15 bachelor’s degrees.

Free meal Thursday

Members of Smith Corners United Methodist Church will serve a free meal Thursday. The event is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the church, 3000 S. Canfield-Niles Road, at state Route 46 and Kirk Road.
Child adoption event
YOUNGSTOWN
Mahoning County Children Service’s adoption-recruitment program — One Church, One Child — will be at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., at noon Saturday.
This year’s guest speaker is Jason Whitehead, chief of staff for Mayor Jay Williams. The event is open to the public, but seating is limited, and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department and Local 3443 of the Professional Firefighters Association are having their annual fruit sale.
The prices are as follows: 20-pound box of navel oranges, $15.50; 20 -pound box of red grapefruit, $14.50; Texas pecans, $10; grapefruit, orange, apple combo, $23.

Fire damages home
WARREN
A fire caused major damage to a three-story house at 1118 Edgewood St. N.E.
A firefighter said the fire department received a call at 6:19 a.m. Saturday about the blaze, caused by a flat iron left unattended in a first-floor living room. No one was injured in the fire.
Firefighters spent two hours at the home extinguishing the fire.
