Pacquiao’s team demands Margarito tested for banned substances

ARLINGTON, TEXAS

Controversy erupted Saturday night before Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito even got in the ring. (Saturday’s fight was not over in time for this edition.)

A weight loss supplement was seen in Margarito’s dressing room before the fight, and Pacquiao’s team demanded that he be tested before the fight for possible banned substances. Texas officials, though, said the testing would be done after the fight as usual.

The weight loss supplement was reportedly Hydroxycut, sold over the counter.

Margarito struggled to lose the last few pounds this week to make the 150-pound contract weight for the fight.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux, fighting for only the seventh time as a pro, went the distance before taking a split decision over Ricardo Cordoba in a junior featherweight fight.

Rigondeaux, who defected from Cuba last year, fought cautiously but well enough to win on two of the ringside scorecards. Rigondeaux won 117-109 and 114-112, while the third judge had Cordoba ahead 114-112.

Rigondeaux knocked down Cordoba in the fourth round with a right hand, but fought cautiously after taking a count himself in the sixth round after a right hand by the Panamanian.
