Exposition of 1936-37 recalled in new book

CLEVELAND

“Meet Me on Lake Erie, Dearie!” the fourth installment in the Cleveland Theater Series by John Vacha will appeal to those who attended Cleveland’s Great Lakes Exposition of 1936-37 or have heard stories about that exciting time during the Great Depression.

Regional-history students and social historians will find this an informative and entertaining addition to their collections.

Vacha, who received the Herrick Memorial Award from the Early Settlers Association of the Western Reserve in recognition of his theatrical history, “Showtime in Cleveland,” provides captivating word pictures of the exposition in the richly illustrated, “Meet Me on Lake Erie, Dearie!”

His book becomes a nostalgic walk down memory lane as it describes the attractions, caf s, bazaars and concerts that were all part of the event that was conceived as a way to energize a city hit hard by the Great Depression.
