YSU LIVE | Penguins lose 30-24
The YSU football team lost to Indiana State 30-24in Saturday's game at Stambaugh Stadium.
INS Ronnie Fouch threw his fourth TD pass, this one to Alex Jones for 8 yards, with 12:14 left in the third quarter.
The score was set up by an interception by YSU QB Kurt Hess -- his third of the game.
After an exchange of punts, YSU drove 81 yards in 13 plays, with Adaris Bellamy going over the right side for a 1-yard TD on third down with 1:46 left in the quarter.
The Penguins have reached a couple milestones. Hess became YSU's first freshman QB to throw for more than 2,000 yards, while WR Dominique Barnes became the first Penguin to catch 60 or more passes in two years. Barnes has also inched up to sixth on the career receiving yardage list and will likely reach fifth before the game is over.
YSU had a chance to cut the deficit to 3 with 5:30 left in the fourth quarter, but Coach Eric Wolford opted to go for it on fourth and 3 at the INS 18 rather than kick the field goal and Hess threw his fourth interception, this one in the end zone.
Should have kicked the field goal there.
YSU had one last chance to score, advancing to the INS 11 in the closing seconds, but two passes in the end zone fell incomplete and the clock ran out on the game and the Penguins' season.
