YSU LIVE | Penguins trail 15-14 after first quarter

The YSU football team trails Indiana State 15-14 after the first quarter of Saturday's game at Stambaugh Stadium.

YSU RB Adaris Bellamy scored a 1-yard TD run with 12:36 left in the first quarter, capping a six-play, 23-yard drive. The score was set up by a fumble recovery on Indiana State's first possession. YSU LB John Sasson stripped the Sycamore RB and Brandian Ross recovered at the 23.

The score means the Penguins have led in every game this season.

The Sycamores answered almost immediately, going 79 yards in two plays. QB Ronnie Fouch hit Alex Jones for a 68-yard TD pass with 11:56 left in the first quarter. Jones got behind the YSU defense on the left sideline and outran everyone to the end zone. After two — two! — defensive offsides penalties, the Sycamores opted to go for the conversion and Darrius Gates easily scored on an off-tackle run to the left.

After a YSU punt, the Sycamores struck again with a 50-yard TD from Fouch to Bryant Kent, who got behind the YSU defense in the middle of the field and scored easily with 6:36 left.

YSU answered with a 5-yard TD run by Jamaine Cook with four minutes left. That score was set up by a 48-yard pass from Kurt Hess to Andre Barboza.

Hess now needs 22 yards to become the first freshman and 10th YSU QB to throw for 2,000 yards in a season.
