Bishop George V. Murry has appointed the Rev. Kevin Peters as pastor of Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart of Jesus churches, effective Nov. 27. Father Peters was ordained June 9, 1990, after seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. Previous assignments include serving as pastor at Mother of Sorrows Church in Ashtabula, and associate pastor at St. Joan of Arc Church in Canton, St. Paul Church in North Canton, St. Nicholas Church in Struthers and most recently at St. Christine Church. He served two years as a navy chaplain for the Archdiocese of Military Services. Father Peters also served as advocate for the Diocesan Tribunal, chaplain for the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Diocesan Priests’ Council.
First Friday Club

The Rev. Sean Kealy, professor of theology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, will speak when the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown meets on Dec. 2 at Antone’s Banquet Centre on Market Street. His topic will be “The Bible and our Vision for Today.” The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. The cost is $15. Reservations are due by Nov. 26. Sister Darla J. Vogelsang of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown recently received certification from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains after completing requirements of four units of clinical pastoral education and 1,600 hours of clinical experience at Summa Health Systems in Akron. She earned a master of arts degree from Walsh University. Sister Darla has served in the Youngstown Diocese as an elementary school teacher and principal, and as a pastoral associate and religious education coordinator in several diocesan parishes including St. Patrick, Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart, St. Paul in Canton and St. Patrick in Hubbard. She began the certification process after completing a term of Leadership for the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown. She serves as a volunteer chaplain for Humility of Mary Health Partners in Boardman, Warren and Youngstown.

The music department of Antioch Baptist Church, 110 Funston St., will present a musical featuring the church mimes, gospel choir and male chorus and singing groups from other churches at 5 p.m. Nov.20.

Melvin Brown of Gospel Temple Baptist Church; Nov. 21 with the Rev. Louise Jackson of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church; and Nov. 28, the Rev. Albert Ross of New Grace Baptist Church. A lecture series on “Moral Relativism” is in progress at St. Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St., at 6 p.m. Thursdays.
The hour of ancient Christian studies focuses on truth, morality, the existence of God and the spirit of our times.
