Goddard School teaches healthy habits

Students are never too young to learn about nutrition — at least that is the motto of one early childhood center.

The Goddard School For Early Childhood Development, located in Boardman, accepts children from infancy to 6 years old. Kim Lipari, owner, said the school has different themes each week as well as overall monthly themes that correspond with major holidays and events.

This month’s theme is “Think Thanks.” Tying in with Thanksgiving, the weekly themes deal with healthy eating habits, manners and Pilgrims and Indians. The classes are intended to tie in aspects of major holidays and everyday learning activities.

“We want to make their holidays more meaningful,” Lipari said. “We also want them to have fun while learning.”

Everyday learning skills at Goddard include sign language, crafts, music education, yoga and learning words in foreign languages. Next month’s theme, Celebration of Light, will focus on colors, night versus day and how colors are created. They will also learn how to say colors in different languages.

“We want them to expand their horizons,” Lipari said.
