Local heroes visit Robinwood Lane

Elementary students gathered in their school auditorium Tuesday as local heroes told them how to keep their homes safe.
Robinwood Lane Elementary’s fall Scholastic Book Fair, themed “heroes,” began Monday and ended yesterday. The book fair is held in the fall and spring and allows students to purchase books before, during and after school hours.
School librarian Kim Gorski arranged for Boardman Fire Department’s Lt. William Glaser and Boardman Police Department’s Capt. Don Lamping to talk to the students about safety during a morning assembly Tuesday. They talked about when to call 911, performing fire drills at home, staying away from strangers and what to do if a fire breaks out in their home.
Students were also allotted time to ask the two about their experiences and job duties. During the school’s Scholastic Book Fair family night, Tuesday evening, an ambulance was available for students to explore and learn about.
“I chose the police, fire and ambulance services as heroes so that the children can recognize them as heroes and won’t have to be afraid of them,” Gorski said.
