Bus crash in Austintown sends kids to hospitals
AUSTINTOWN
An Austintown school bus driver ran off the road and hit a tree at about 7:45 a.m. today. Fourteen students were checked out at area hospitals.
Fire Chief Andy Frost Jr. said it appears the accident was caused by a medical issue faced by the driver. He was identified as Jack Cabot, 62, of Canfield.
Frost said quite a few students were sent to hospitals with minor injuries.
The accident happened near Austintown Township Park on Kirk Road. Police Chief Bob Gavalier said a physician believes Cabot had a heart attack before the accident.
“We’re just trying to put the pieces of the accident together,” Frost said.
