Unplugging unused phones saves Dayton $52K, officials say
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The city says it’s saving $52,000 a year by saying goodbye to unused phone lines.
Officials in Dayton say 16 agencies identified 234 city government lines that were no longer needed because of cuts in staffing. Taking the phones out of service will cut $4,400 in monthly charges from the city budget.
Dayton City Manager Tim Riordan said in a statement today that it’s an example of how every little bit helps when it comes to finding savings during difficult budget times.
Officials say the old telephones will be set aside to replace others in the future, to lower costs even further.
