Two interested in soon-do-be-vacant city council post

The seat isn’t cold yet and there are already two candidates interested in replacing outgoing 4th Ward Councilwoman Carol Rimedio-Righetti.

Rimedio-Righetti, D-4th, was elected last week to a four-year term as Mahoning County commissioner. She will resign from city council on Dec. 31, and then be sworn in as a commissioner.

The county Democratic Party precinct committee members in Youngstown’s 4th Ward will vote on who fills the final year of Rimedio-Righetti’s four-year term on city council. There are 13 precinct committee member seats in the ward though one is currently vacant.

By state law, the committee members can’t vote on a replacement any earlier than five days after Rimedio-Righetti’s resignation.

But the committee will probably start screening potential replacements as soon as the end of this month or the beginning of December, Rimedio-Righetti said.

The two candidates, so far, interested in replacing her are: Michael Ray, 33, and Milan Zordich, 71.
