Pa. janitor charged with attacking student, 8

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Police say a janitor at a suburban Philadelphia charter school is facing charges for allegedly putting an 8-year-old boy in a headlock and striking him in the face.

Police in Chester Township say 18-year-old Jorge Alvarado-Barbosa taunted the boy then lunged and grabbed him Monday morning at the Chester Community Charter School.

Alvarado-Barbosa is charged with aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment. He was arraigned Wednesday and jailed on $5,000 bail.

The alleged victim’s father tells WPVI-TV school officials did not inform him of the incident and he instead heard about it several hours later from his older son.

School officials did not immediately respond to a phone message left early today by The Associated Press.
