YOUNGSTOWN

Charles Etto, charged with felonious assault, has been released from Mahoning County jail on $15,000 bond with electronically monitored house arrest.

Etto is accused of giving his 16-year-old son, Derek, a baseball bat, with which the boy allegedly hit on the head and seriously injured a 15-year-old classmate during a Sept. 27 fight at the Etto residence on South Edgehill Ave.

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum, of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, released Etto, 40, of Austintown, on Wednesday, pending a 9 a.m. Dec. 1 pretrial and probation violation hearing and an 8:30 a.m. Dec. 6 jury trial.

On Nov. 1, Judge Krichbaum had denied bond for Etto and jailed him for violating his probation from earlier drug-trafficking and child-endangering charges by being arrested on the new charge of felonious assault.
