Fog may be factor in fatal accident

Staff report

WARREN

Matthew S. Reese, 24, of Wildwood Avenue Northeast was found dead Wednesday morning after his vehicle crashed into some trees along Palmyra Road Southeast.

Warren police believe the crash may have occurred as early as midnight to 3 a.m. Wednesday based on the fact that the engine was already cool when they arrived.

Police observed that conditions were foggy throughout the night and morning hours, which may have contributed to the accident.

Reese was driving southwest on Palmyra Road near the city limits when his vehicle went off the right side of the road on a curve, over-corrected toward the left, crossing over the center line, then left the road again on the right.

The vehicle hit a ditch and trees and overturned, police said.

The vehicle was found in some trees about 7:10 a.m.

Police estimate Reese was driving about 45 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone. He was wearing a seat belt.

The accident location is about a quarter-mile northeast of a single-vehicle fatal accident that occurred Oct. 9.

In that crash, a vehicle driven by Nathan J. Ferris, 21, of Warren-Ravenna Road in Newton Falls was southwest-bound on Palymra Road in Warren Township about 5:45 p.m.

The vehicle failed to negotiate a bend at 3140 Palmyra Road while traveling about 100 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone, struck an embankment, went airborne and struck a mailbox and utility pole, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The vehicle overturned and ejected a passenger, Ashley R. Jerina, 20, also of Warren-Ravenna Road, killing her. She was wearing a shoulder seat belt, police said.
