Boardman man finds nail in Halloween candy bar

BOARDMAN

A 38-year-old township resident told police he found a nail when biting into a piece of Halloween candy.

On Tuesday, the man was eating a small candy bar that his children received while trick-or-treating Oct. 31 when he realized there was a small nail or barb inside, police said.

When the man inspected the candy wrapper, he noticed a small hole near the end where the nail could have been inserted, reports stated.

The man lives on Terrace Drive, and told police his children trick-or-treated on that street, Clifton and Beechwood Drives between Market Street and Southern Boulevard. They also went to houses on Terrace between Southern Boulevard and Erie Street.

“Unfortunately, it’s something that crops up every year. We try to deal with it, but it’s hard to tell where a particular piece of candy came from,” said police Chief Jack Nichols.

He recommends that parents check candy and discard any pieces that have torn wrappers, a wrapper with a hole or appear to be homemade.
