Firefighter suffers fatal heart attack on call


NORTH IRWIN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a western Pennsylvania firefighter is dead after suffering an apparent heart attack while responding to a call.

Fire officials in Westmoreland County say the 63-year-old firefighter was stricken at the fire station early this morning and transported to a hospital where he later died. Crews were responding to a house fire call in North Irwin at the time.

Officials did not immediately release the firefighter’s name pending notification of his family.

Another firefighter was injured on the call and one person was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
