Investigators are trying to determine who tried to set a Dearborn Avenue home on fire. According to police, family members at 2825 Dearborn were in bed at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when someone noticed a glowing light from the front porch. It was soon discovered the porch was on fire, and firefighters say someone threw an accelerant onto the porch.
Witnesses say a black Monte Carlo or Grand Prix drove past the North Side house, turned around and slowed down enough for someone inside to throw the accelerant. The fire was noticed quickly by those inside the house and extinguished. Firefighters estimated damages to be about $100.
