The state controlling board has signed off on three property purchases by Youngstown State University.
The combined purchase price was about $28,000, and all three lots will be used for expansions of the university’s athletics fields.
The lawmaker panel, without comment, approved YSU’s plans to spend $13,000 on a lot at 360 Grant St. and $665 for parcels located nearby on Watt and Grant streets. All are owned by the YSU Foundation.
The state board also OK’d $14,000 for a lot at 369 Grant St. from owner Jack Gaines. The purchases were in line with recent appraisals, according to controlling-board documents.
School-safety facts
NORTH LIMA
South Range Local Schools will have a school-safety meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the South Range K-12 Complex auditorium, 11300 Columbiana-Canfield Road (state Route 46).
The purpose of the meeting is to communicate to parents and guardians the joint efforts of the school and Beaver Township safety forces relative to school safety.
Representatives from the township police and fire departments and South Range School administrators will discuss policies and plans in place in the school district.
Mayoral candidacy
WARREN
Jim Graham, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112 at the Lordstown General Motors assembly plant, has scheduled an event at 6 p.m. today at Sorrento’s Banquet Room, 2488 Parkman Road N.W., “to announce [his] decision on candidacy for mayor of Warren.”
Mayor Michael O’Brien announced Friday he will not seek re-election. His term expires at the end of 2011.
Immunization clinic
GIRARD
The Girard Health Department’s Well-Child immunization clinic is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the city building, 100 W. Main St. A $5 administration fee will be charged per child. Parents are reminded to bring a copy of their child’s immunization record and that a parent or guardian must accompany children under 18. Preregistration is required.
