Deputies revive police officer after heart attack

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A pair of sheriff’s deputies from western Pennsylvania are being credited with saving the life of a police officer stricken by a heart attack.

Officials say 43-year-old McKeesport police Officer Todd Gebis went into cardiac arrest inside the Allegheny County Courthouse on Monday morning. That’s when deputies Anthony Fratto and Scott McCarthy rushed to his aid to perform CPR.

Fratto, a former paramedic, ventilated Gebis while McCarthy performed chest compressions. The deputies also used an automated external defibrillator kept at the courthouse.

By the time medics arrived, the deputies say Gebis had a pulse and was breathing. Gebis was hospitalized in stable condition.

McKeesport Mayor Jim Brewster said that Gebis has been with the force for 15 years.
