Cancer survivor, artist at store

NILES

Nature artist Robert J. Rider will visit the AwwwMazing Place in Eastwood Mall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday to greet visitors and discuss his life and artwork. Rider is a veteran and a cancer survivor.

Admission is free. Rider’s paintings will be sold to benefit the A Way With Words Foundation, a local charity dedicated to helping cancer patients survive the diagnosis and life after.

‘The Walking Dead’ has a lot of life

AMC network is rewarding its new zombie drama “The Walking Dead” with life for a second season after just two episodes have aired. The series premiered Halloween night as an instant hit, drawing 5.3 million viewers. The second episode, which aired Sunday, was seen by 4.7 million viewers.

Set in the Atlanta area, “The Walking Dead” stars Andrew Lincoln as a small-town police officer leading a group of survivors after a zombie apocalypse. It is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman. “The Walking Dead” takes its place as AMC’s fourth original drama series, joining veteran dramas “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.” The fate of “Rubicon,” which recently concluded its first season, remains unclear.

Country-western at Yankee Lake

The first Yankee Bootleggers Saloon will take place Friday at the Yankee Lake Ballroom. The country- western-style event will be every Friday night through the end of March. Doors open at 7 p.m. with line-dancing lessons. Live music will start at 9 p.m. Featured will be mechanical bull rides, a pool table, light-up cornhole, games, food and special events.
