Arson does little damage to city home

Investigators are trying to determine who tried to set fire to an occupied Dearborn Avenue home.

According to police, family members at 2825 Dearborn Avenue were in bed at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when someone noticed a glowing light from the front porch. It was soon discovered that the porch was on fire and firefighters say someone threw an accelerant onto the porch and started the fire.

Witnesses say a black Monte Carlo or Grand Prix drove past the house, turned around and slowed down enough for someone inside to throw the fire bomb at the house.

The fire was noticed quickly by those inside the house and extinguished. Firefighters estimated damages to be about $100.
