Robocalls may backfire
I can’t let this election sea- son end without addressing the multitude of computer generated political telephone calls we’ve all received.
Has anyone ever actually listened to the messages? I’d bet almost everyone either ignores the call if they have caller ID, or otherwise hangs up as soon as they realize it’s a recording, even if it’s from Bill Clinton or Sarah Palin.
Candidates may think that this is an inexpensive way to reach voters, but do they really think it’s effective? If anything, the annoyance caused may generate a negative effect.
Technology has brought us innumerable improvements in our daily lives. However, just because it can be done doesn’t mean it should be done.

Think pink, then think beyond
I was thrilled to see the sup- port of the Valley area during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. It seemed like everywhere I looked something had been colored pink.
But I would like to stress that although this is a great endeavor, it is most important that women practice self-breast exam, visit your physician and schedule a mammogram as needed. The “pink” items we purchase are certainly helpful in raising money and awareness, but always remember to engage in all three of the above screenings to ensure early detection and treatment of a breast mass.
