POLICE CALLS

A summary of police activity in the city of Canfield and Austintown Township:

CANFIELD

Oct. 6

Rape: Police charged Dr. Larry Smith, 70, of 5 Court St., with rape and sexual battery against a woman who reported the incident. Police photographed an injury at the station.

Oct. 25

Theft: Police arrested Linda Messing, 49, of 320 Russo St., in a theft from St. Michael Church, 300 N. Broad St. She had been fired as an employee June 30 as the facilities coordinator for the St. Michael Parish Life Center. She was charged with one count of theft. She admitted to personal use of food that had been ordered for and paid for by the church.

Oct. 30

Theft: Jewelry was reported stolen at a home in the 40 block of Oak Tree Drive.

Drug abuse: Police charged David Smith, 28, of 170 Grimm Heights, Struthers with possession of a small bag of suspected marijuana after his arrest at Deer Trail Avenue.

Warrant: Police arrested Breck Beeman, 36, of 6184 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, on a warrant charging felony larceny at Kirk Street.

AUSTINTOWN

Oct. 25

Fraud: An unauthorized charge was made to a checking account at a home in the 4000 block of South Edgehill Avenue .

Warrant: Police arrested Timothy Anderson, 23, of 1405 Gypsy Lane, Niles, on two warrants for failure to appear in court on charges of receiving stolen property.

Breaking and entering: Copper waterlines were cut and taken at a home in the 3000 block of New Road.

Theft: Several items were stolen from an auto at Austintown Fitch High School, 4560 Falcon Drive.

Burglary: Copper pipe was taken from a vacant home in the 400 block of North Raccoon Road.

Theft: An employee of Siffrin Inc., 25 N. Canfield-Niles Road, was placed on administrative leave and police notified after $800 of a disabled client’s money was withdrawn to pay for furniture that was never purchased.

Oct. 26

Warrant: Police arrested John Winwood, 39, of 131 N. Kimberly Ave., on a warrant charging failure to appear in court and disorderly conduct.

Auto theft: A 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt was stolen from Enterprise, 4908 Mahoning Ave.

Bad check: A woman is accused of writing a bad check for $500 at Austintown Auto, 5275 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: 80 feet of copper wire was stolen at Fisher Bord, 3650 Connecticut Ave.

Falsification: Joseph Macik, 28, of 2688 Evelyn Road, surrendered to police on a summons charging he made a false police report.

Oct. 27

Theft: A Motorola Droid cell phone was stolen from a home in the 1000 block of County Line Road.

Forgery: A man is accused of forgery at a home in the 3000 block of Almerinda Drive.

Theft: A purse and passport were stolen from an auto parked at Giant Eagle, 5220 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: Two catalytic converters were cut off vehicles at Bezac Equipment, 3721 Mahoning Ave.

Burglary: A burglary was reported at a home in the 2000 block of Elm Trace Street.

Liquor violation: Police arrested Jessica Tyree, 35, of 2333 Birch Trace Drive, on a summons alleging sale of liquor to a minor at The Manor, 3104 Canfield-Niles Road.

Theft: Checks and jewelry were stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Yolanda Place.

Fraud: Unauthorized charges were made to an account at a home in the 4000 block of Crabwood Court.

Warrant: Police arrested Parrish Henderson, 49, of 5643 Ratcliff Drive, on North Lipkey Road on a warrant charging failure to appear.

Breaking and entering: A garage was broken into and clothes taken in the 90 block of Idlewood Road.

Vehicle theft: A 1999 Jeep Cherokee was stolen at Comprehensive Logistics, 365 Victoria Road.

Telecommunications harassment: A woman reported receiving harassing text messages and e-mails from a man at a home in the 300 block of Beechcrest Drive.

Fraud: A man attempted to cash a fraudulent money order worth $975 at Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave., and fled in a vehicle.

Oct. 28

Summons: Police issued a summons to David Nerone, 56, of 640 Edison St., Struthers, for sale of liquor to a minor at The Chalet, 3692 Meridian Road.

Theft: A book and an LED flashlight were stolen from an auto parked at the high school.

Theft: Cassette tapes and a flashlight were stolen from an auto parked at the high school.

Theft: Various items were stolen from an auto parked at the high school.

Criminal damaging: A window was damaged at P.C. Doctors, 3710 Mahoning Ave.

Criminal damaging: Damage to a glass door was done by a customer at First Place Bank, 3516 Meridian Road.

Fraud: $1,100 in unauthorized charges were made at a home in the 4000 block of Aspen Drive.

Recovered property: A pink bicycle was recovered at the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road.

Breaking and entering: A storage closet and football jerseys were taken from a home in the 4000 block of Rhode Island Drive.

Oct. 29

Theft: A total $47.01 in fuel was stolen from Country Fair, 1143 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Burglary: An undisclosed amount of copper wire was stolen from a residence in the 4000 block of Lanterman Road.

Vehicle theft: A 1992 Chevrolet Starcraft was stolen from the Ideal Store, 202 N. Meridian Road.

Breaking and entering: Four old snowmobiles were stolen from a home in the 1000 block of County Line Road.

Theft: A total of $35.05 in fuel was stolen from Country Fair, 1143 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Summons: Police issued a summons to Christine Jones, 48, of 73 Clifton Drive, Boardman, charging sale of liquor to a minor at The Budapest, 3780 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: A 1987 Louisiana State University Sugar Bowl ring and Ricon digital camera were stolen from an auto parked at Get-Go, 5163 Mahoning Ave.

Breaking and entering: A copper pipe was stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Parkgate Avenue.

Disorderly conduct: Police issued a summons to Deborah Green, no age or address listed, alleging disorderly conduct at South Raccoon and Burkey roads.

Criminal damaging: Damage to a car was reported at the high school.

Oct. 30

Criminal damaging: A mailbox was damaged at a home in the 6000 block of Heron’s Circle.

Theft: A handicapped placard was stolen from an auto parked in the 4000 block of Pembrook Road.

Theft: A bottle of brandy was stolen from 1-Stop, 6000 Mahoning Ave.

Oct. 31

Aggravated menacing: A man is accused of menacing at a home in the 100 block of Georgetown Place.

Criminal damaging: A rear bumper was cracked and a partial footprint found on the bumper at a home in the 4000 block of Lanterman Road.

Theft: Hydrocodone and money were stolen from an apartment in the 1000 block of Paisley Street.

Theft: Cash was taken from a home in the 4000 block of Signature Circle.

Aggravated burglary: A sliding door was damaged, and a man entered an apartment in the 1000 block of Fountain Square.

Personal injury: Police issued a summons to Diane Pabst, 54, of 551 Forest Hill Drive, alleging failure to control her dog, which bit someone.

Lost or stolen purse: A purse was lost or stolen at Bill’s Place, 4771 Mahoning Ave.
