‘Independence’ at Kent-Trumbull

CHAMPION

Playwright Lee Blessing’s “Independence” opens Friday at Kent-Trumbull Theater. Directed by Daniel-Raymond Nadon, the play tells the story of a mother and her three grown daughters in the small town of Independence, Iowa. As they each strive for their own independence, they discover that their family ties are deeper than they ever realized. The show contains some adult themes.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Nov. 12 and 13; and 3 p.m. Nov. 14. The theater is on the campus at 4317 Mahoning Ave. NW, just north of Route 82. Tickets are $10 ($8 for students and seniors). Call 330- 675-8887 for reservations.

Model railroad group’s open house

AUSTINTOWN

The Youngstown Model Railroad Association will sponsor an open house from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; Nov. 13 and 14 and Dec. 4 and 5 at its club, 751 N. Four Mile Run Road. Admission is $3 (free for children age 11 and younger). For more information, go to ymra.org

Ceramics calendars

EAST LIVERPOOL

The “Hans Hacker’s Fredericktown” 2011 calendar is now available in the Museum of Ceramics gift shop, 400 E. Fifth St. Hacker was one of the area’s pre-eminent artists and also one of the nation’s most-prolific dinnerware decal artists. He was the art director for Commercial Decal in East Liverpool for many decades.
