Youngstown Express wins a wild one in 9

Carmen Tarantino scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning on an error to lead Youngstown Express to a wild, 10-11 victory over Roth Brothers in a Class B game Monday night at Cene Park.

David Bobby got the victory, shutting down the Roth offense in the final two innings.

Tarantino led the Express with five hits, two RBI, and two runs. Dave DiBernardi, Tyler Blangero, and Bobby all added two hits to the winning cause. DiBernardi had a double and three RBIs, while Blangero had a double, an RBI, and scored three times as well.

For Roth Brothers, Tyler Kernan got the loss. Cam Onderko led Roth with three hits, including a triple, to go along with two RBIs and one run. Tommy Quealy added two hits, including a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Brock McGivern had a double as well in a two-hit performance, scoring once with an RBI.

Wharmby Sports 3, 1080 Media 1

John Foster went the distance to get the victory for Wharmby, allowing one run on two hits, walking four, and striking out six.

David Saluga and John Price each had two hits, including a double, along with an RBI apiece.

Dillon Haviland got the loss for 1080 Media, going six strong innings, surrendering three runs (two earned), while scattering nine hits, walking only one, and striking out 10.

Justin Vrabel had a hit and an RBI for 1080.

Late Sunday Otn Performance 8, Wharmby Sports 4

OTN started with a four-run first, giving Geoff Samner the offense he would need. Samner carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning for OTN. He walked eight and struck out four in his five-plus innings of work. Brent Messett and Mike Watson each had two hits.

In the losing effort, Jim Dobran had a hit and walked twice, scoring two runs.

Dave Sugar Excavating 11, Roth Brothers 9

Sugar opened the scoring with two in the first inning.

Roth got four in the third inning thanks to a big two-run single by Dan Calai. Also in that inning, Anthony O’Nesti hit a triple followed by a double from Matt Harmon.

Roth added two more in the fourth for a 6-2 lead.

In the fifth, Sugar tied the game with a two-out comeback. Roth retook the lead in the fifth with a two-out double from Max McDowell, driving in two runs. Sugar got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, Sugar’s bats came alive, scoring five runs on four hits.

Sugar got multiple hits from G.J. Senchak and Ben Murray.

For Roth, Max McDowell and Jake McDonald had two hits apiece while Dan Calai drove home three runs.
