Leetonia will have its second annual Strawberry Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 12. It will include a breakfast starting at 10 a.m. at British Pastries.

Lunch and dinner also will be served featuring strawberries. There also will be a flea market; tables are available.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by Loren Coler, Niki Slaven and Ty Stouffer, and Little Joe, along with games.

Milton crime watch

LAKE MILTON

The township police district is inviting residents to join the township crime-watch program. Meetings are at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of every month at town hall.

The citizens’ crime-watch program is meant to identify the patterns of crime in a particular neighborhood. Participants, acting in conjunction with the police district, are then able to reduce risk to themselves and neighbors.

The program provides the opportunity to meet with the chief of police and officers of the police district. It also includes an overview of the department’s policies and procedures.

Applicants must be a citizen of Milton Township with a clean criminal history (excluding traffic infractions). Citizens under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Water service

PETERSBURG

A meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. June 8 at Springfield Township Fire Station 22 for Petersburg residents to sign up for water service. Aqua Ohio and township officials will be present to assist and answer any questions

Dance planned

GIRARD

A Mad Hot Monday Ballroom Boogie will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Kuzman’s Dance Hall, 1025 S. State St.

The free event will feature ballroom, Latin, swing and hustle dancing. It is open to the public.

Teen faces charge

BOARDMAN

Police charged a boy with assaulting a police officer at a carnival at the Southern Park Mall after large groups of teens fought.

Police closed the carnival after breaking up the fight, which began about 10 p.m. Saturday.

The Bates Brothers Carnival was reopened Sunday without a problem, police said. It is scheduled to continue on the mall’s parking lot through next Sunday.

No blogs in court

COLUMBUS

A new instruction for Ohio juries warns against using smart phones, e-mail, blogs, Twitter and other social media to gather information about a case. The optional instruction announced recently by the Ohio State Bar Association aims to keep courtrooms current with changing technology. The instruction, which also covers chat rooms and texting, updates warnings judges can already give about staying away from newspaper and television coverage of a case.
