Veterans get in free

Active, honorably discharged and retired members of the military with a valid ID will be admitted free today and Monday to Cedar Point and its adjacent Soak City water park in honor of Memorial Day. Family members can buy reduced admission tickets at the military discount.
Vets also can purchase the Picnic at the Point meal at half-price all weekend. It features an all-you-can-eat meal of broiled Johnsonville brats, fried chicken, hot dogs, baked rigatoni, potato salad, baked beans, cookies, ice cream and assorted Pepsi beverages. It is available from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday. Tickets can be purchased online at cedarpoint.com or at the park’s admission gates.
Cedar Point and Soak City are among 11 amusement parks and six water parks owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. to host its Tribute to the Armed Forces this weekend. Soak City will be open daily through Labor Day.
Chaney band concert

The Chaney High School Band Spring Concert is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the school auditorium. Tickets are $2 at the door.
The band is under the direction of Stephen M. Barba.
Featured guest will be Youngstown Connection under the direction of Carol Baird.
Liberty planting
LIBERTY
Liberty in Bloom needs volunteers. Participants should bring planting gloves and a trowel. Those who have volunteered to take care of a welcome sign can pick up their flowers at their convenience. Contact Jodi Stoyak at 330- 759-1315, ext. 101, if you want to work at any of these times:
WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m. to noon, township administration building, planting both front and back of building.
THURSDAY: 10 a.m. to noon, meet at the triangle at I-80, park at Fortune Garden restaurant. Plantings also may occur at Church Hill Park entrance.
FRIDAY: 10 a.m. to noon, clean out beds if needed and plant. Meet at Logan Way welcome sign.
SATURDAY: 1 to 3 p.m., meet at Logan Swim Club.
SUNDAY: 1 to 3 p.m., Liberty Street and I-80, both sides of the bridge area.
Free summer camp
Carrollton, Ohio
The Salvation Army will send 25 kids age 6 to 12 to camp this summer through the Newton Falls Service Unit. They will go to Camp NEOSA near Carrollton from July 22 to 27.
The free camp involves fishing, canoeing and other activities. There are 25 camper spots available, so applications should be submitted as soon as possible.
