AUSTINTOWN
The Mahoning Valley Mustang and Northeastern Ohio Camaro clubs will sponsor the third annual Mustang vs. Camaro Showdown from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Quaker Steak and Lube on Interstate Boulevard.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Angels of Easter Seals of the Mahoning Valley, where 99 percent of each dollar raised stays in the Valley to help those in need.
Each car owner is asked to donate a minimum of $5, and a number will be given to each car entered. Then everyone is encouraged to vote for their own personal favorite car at $1 per vote. Those attending may vote as often as they wish. Admission to the event is free.
In addition, the staff and members of MVM will choose the best Camaro as the staff and members of NEOCC select the best Mustang. A new feature this year will be “Hunter’s Choice,” a favorite car chosen by Easter Seals client Hunter Crites. Hunter was able to walk unassisted at the recent Angels of Easter Seals style show thanks to the SuitAbility program, an intense form of therapy that he underwent for three hours per day, five days a week for three weeks along with follow-up therapy afterward. Funds for the SuitAbility program were raised by the Angels last November.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three personal favorites along with Best Mustang, Best Camaro, Quaker Steak and Lube’s pick and Angels of Easter Seals’ choice.
There also will be a raffle of special baskets along with music by Big Rick and door prizes awarded every 15 minutes. Penny the Pig also will be there accepting donations.
On the committee are Jean Bennett, Angels president; Carol O’Neill; and Julie Costas.
