Union Elementary was visited by volunteers for its JA (Junior Achievement) in a Day program May 14.
Mayor Tim Sicafuse, JA President Michele Merkel and Shephard of the Valley representatives Elida Cowles and Patricia Ahlswede taught fourth-graders five lessons.
The classes dealt with learning concepts such as investment, profit and expenses paired with skills like decision-making, interpreting data and predicting results. Following the lessons, students participated in hands-on activities that were intended to reinforce what they were taught by the volunteers.
The JA program is usually spread out over a course of five weeks, but Union decided to complete the program in one day. Lessons were broken down into five 45-minute sessions and activities.
This is an annual event and Union plans to continue its partnership with Mahoning Valley’s Junior Achievement.
