Students pass cosmetology licensing exam

Seniors in the Cosmetology program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center recently traveled to Columbus where they took the licensing exam.

They returned home with licenses in hand and their future careers awaiting them. All 15 students passed the two-part Ohio State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exam.

In preparation for the exam, students spent the last nine weeks studying and preparing for the exam under the guidance of instructor Linda Tomko.

During the exam the students had to complete both a written and practical section that covered manicures, facials, color, cutting, relaxers, perms and thermals.

“I am so excited to receive my license and get to use my creative and artistic side in this field,” said senior Paisley Cameron of Austintown. Cameron is currently employed at Hours Spa in Austintown.

Many of the other students are following in Cameron’s footsteps and looking for job placement before graduation with their new licenses.

“The students made us so proud the entire trip and now they’re able to go out and start building a career and a life for themselves,” Tomko said.

Students who passed the exam are Michelle Burns of Poland, Paisley Cameron, Melissa Mansfield and Jamie Hagerty of Austintown, Ashley Frohman of Lowellville, Katie Haynes of West Branch, Acacia Johnson, Amber Burrell, Hayley Secre and Alicia Lawrence of Struthers, Kaitlyn Nezbeth of Sebring, Desirae Seidner of Springfield, Jennifer Wince of South Range, Kimberly Wolford and Sydney Wylie of Boardman.
