Market Street Elementary hosted an Amazing Race for mothers and sons May 14 which sent teams deep into Boardman Township completing tasks and competing for first place.

The event was inspired by the hit show “Amazing Race” and required teams to complete odd tasks, just as teams do in the show. A total of 36 teams were led through 16 challenges. Teams could only advance to the next challenge by following clues that were received after a completed task.

Second-graders had to polish their mother’s nails and take trips to Boardman Park, fire station and even the principal’s home. This was the first year the Amazing Race has taken place, but school Principal Jim Stitt said he plans to make it a Market Street tradition.

“We try to make a difference daily for students and bringing students and families together is always positive for all involved,” he said.
