School foundation seeks award nominees

The Poland Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence is seeking nominations for honorees for the annual Alumnus of the Year and Educator of the Year awards.

The foundation was created about 18 years ago to assist in providing resources to the students within the Poland school system that they would otherwise not have.

Over the years, money raised by the foundation has been used to fund such things as lighting for the stage at the high school, sign language books, scientific equipment for the science lab and mini-grants for teachers at all grade levels.

Most recently, the foundation provided equipment that allows teachers to receive critical feedback from students electronically so that they can immediately access what level of understanding students have of subject matter at any given time. This equipment was purchased from a local company called Turning Technologies in Youngstown.

Nominees for Educator of the Year and Alumnus of the Year should include Poland graduates who have gone on to achieve remarkable things or who have served the community in some outstanding fashion.

Educator’s of the Year are typically school staff that by their dedication to their profession and because of outstanding skills, stand out amongst their peers as caring professionals who help students to achieve their greatest potential or further the cause of educating children in some outstanding manner.

To nominate someone, send the name, graduation year and information outlining why you think the person deserves to be considered to PSFEE, P.O. Box 5217, Poland, OH 44514.
