North Elementary was awarded with Chick-fil-a’s Core Essentials Award May 19 for excellence in educating students about character and value.

Chick-fil-a operator Gail McCullough and the Chick-fil-a cow presented students with an honorary plaque and a check for $500. Ten schools nationwide were chosen for the award and this is the second consecutive year North has won.

Principal Michael Masucci implemented a program for the school called “value of the month.” It focuses on discussing and demonstrating the values of respect, uniqueness, joy, forgiveness, determination, kindness, humility, courage and initiative.

McCullough said North constantly works to instill the values that the Core Essential Award stands for into its students.

“The Poland North Elementary School teachers work diligently to teach their students moral and scholastic lessons and we are excited and privileged to honor them for this accomplishment for the second time,” he said.

This is the fourth year a school in Poland has won nationally.
