Hilltop Elementary School invited all its PTO volunteers to breakfast May 21 to thank them for their participation, hard work and support this school year. The breakfast was held in the cafeteria and was catered by Ala Cart Catering.
Cathy Mowry, principal of Hilltop Elementary School, said the volunteers’ support and help throughout the year has helped make the school the best it can be.
“There is such a sense of community here at Hilltop and much of it is due to the overwhelming support of the parents,” Mowry said.
Mowry mentioned the new parent involvement Red Carpet Reading program that was implemented with help from PTO parents. The goal of the program is to encourage all children to read for fun and practice. When parents are involved in the reading process, academic performance improves.
Each month, when the children have reached their goal, they participate in the Red Carpet Walk with “paparazzi” snapping pictures of each student.
The Parent Communication PTO Committee was also initiated this year with its main goal being to improve communication between home and school.
The Hilltop PTO also sponsored and participated in many events throughout the year, including the classroom holiday parties, Santa’s Workshop, Fun in the Sun, Dinner with Dad, the Winter Carnival, the book fair, student appreciation day, kindergarten screening and registration and COSI.
