Carol Starre-Kmiecik revealed the life and legacy of Molly Brown who survived the Titanic's maiden voyage. Starre-Kmiecik can impersonate eight historical figures.
The unforgettable night of April 15, 1912, when the proclaimed unsinkable RMS Titanic sunk, was recounted by Molly Brown during an annual spring tea.
Carol Starre-Kmiecik, of Lakewood, portrayed the infamous “unsinkable” Molly Brown for Blackburn Home residents and guests May 30. Starre-Kmiecik was the speaker for the home’s annual Spring Bonnet Tea.
Joanne Underwood, Blackburn Home director, said the exploration of life of Molly Brown was chosen because she was an interesting person and the setting of the tea was female-oriented.
Each year, different speakers are invited to talk about various topics such as career paths, famous public figures and historical events. The tea itself is used to mark the beginning of spring.
“It’s a tradition to bring in the spring and residents are able to dress up and be lady-like,” Underwood said.
Starre-Kmiecik gave an anecdote of how Brown became a millionaire and her account of the Titanic’s sinking. She also answered questions about the life of Brown and socialized with the guests after her performance.
In addition to Molly Brown, Starre-Kmiercik impersonates seven other famous women, including Amelia Earhart, Clara Barton and Dolly Madison. She has been performing for more than 35 years.
Following the Starre-Kmiecik’s performance, tea attendees were served an array of desserts and flavored teas accompanied by bite-sized sandwiches. This was the event’s 19th year.
