Ohio infant dies when left in car on hot day

COLUMBUS (AP) — Police in Ohio say a 9-month old girl died when she was left inside a car on a hot day.

Columbus police homicide detectives say a 70-year-old family member was responsible for the baby on Wednesday and forgot she was inside the vehicle, parked outside an address on the city’s northeast side.

Police say the infant was inside the car for an extended period of time, on a day when the outside temperature reached 87 degrees in Columbus.

Detectives say late in the day the child’s relative realized what had happened, rushed to the vehicle and attempted to perform CPR. The baby girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead around 6:15 p.m.

Names have not been released and no charges have been filed.
