Lip tattoo leads to arrest in home invasion in Colorado
PUEBLO, Colo
Police say a suspect in a Colorado home invasion had the evidence written all over his face.
A tattoo on the upper lip of 20-year-old Anthony Brandon Gonzales led to his arrest in the home invasion of an Elvis impersonator in Pueblo County.
A witness told police that one of the invaders had “East Side” tattooed on his upper lip. Gonzales also has a “13” tattooed on his chin in the shape of a goatee.
According to an affidavit, the tattoos were visible even though Gonzales was wearing a mask.
Gonzales was already in jail on a separate drug charge. Police have now charged him with the April burglary, too. Sgt. Eric Bravo said his distinctive tattoo led to the charge, saying, “It’s hard to miss him.”
Man who drove into Calif. jail gets 9 years in prison
IRVINE, Calif.
A man who crashed his Mercedes through the gates of a California jail while driving drunk will spend some serious time behind bars.
Matthew Van McDaniel, 25, of Los Alamitos was sentenced in a Newport Beach courtroom to nine years in state prison for driving recklessly while under the influence of alcohol and assaulting an officer, the Orange County district attorney’s office said.
Early on Jan. 10, McDaniel was driving in his Mercedes S550 with a blood-alcohol level of 0.14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit. He lost control and crashed through the gates of the James Musick Correctional Facility in Irvine. McDaniel then punched and broke the nose of a deputy sheriff from the jail who was trying to restrain him.
Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said at the time it was “the first time somebody tried to break into the jail.”
McDaniel pleaded guilty to one felony count of aggravated assault on an officer, one felony count of being an ex-convict entering the grounds of a correctional facility, one misdemeanor count of reckless driving, one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one misdemeanor count of driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or more.
Burglar in Iowa feasts on sandwiches but leaves money
DES MOINES, Iowa
Police say a burglar broke into a Des Moines Subway store, helped himself to a smorgasbord of cold cuts and made sandwiches for the journey home — but left the store’s cash behind.
Police Sgt. Lori Lavorato says the thief got inside the shop through a drive-up window Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Lavorato says the burglar made some sandwiches and took a significant amount of cold- cut meats, bread and cookies, but he failed to find the store’s kitty, which was hidden.
