Mahoning County Probate Court magistrate retires


YOUNGSTOWN

Atty. Richard L. Burgess retired Friday as chief magistrate of the Mahoning County Probate Court.

A lifelong Youngstown resident who served five years in the Navy, Burgess received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in economics from Youngstown State University and his law degree from the University of Akron. Before becoming a lawyer, he was a market manager for Ohio Bell for 22 years.

He was in private law practice for seven years and spent 10 years as senior staff attorney with the 7th District Court of Appeals before joining the probate court in 2001.
