Joy Cone expanding, adding workers

Staff report

HERMITAGE, pa.

Joy Cone Co., the nation’s No. 1 supplier of ice-cream cones, is about to invest $10 million to expand its production and warehouse facilities at its plant on Lamor Road.

Company President Dave George said five years of increased sales — even in this tough economy — have prompted the investment.

The expansion will put the plant’s overall size at a half-million square feet, and bring at least 50 more employees to the current work force of 350.

The company produces about 6 million cones per day and supplies Dairy Queen, Handel’s and all McDonald’s restaurants.

Hermitage commissioners approved the land-

development plan

Wednesday night.

The company is planning a June groundbreaking and expects the project to be completed in January.
