Bottle bomb left in Ohio portable toilet

HURON, Ohio (AP) — Four men in Ohio are accused of rigging a different kind of stink bomb: a homemade explosive left in a portable toilet at a construction site.

Police in Huron in northern Ohio say a Lorain County bomb squad member was covered in excrement when the squad detonated the bottle bomb last week by firing a .22 caliber rifle into the toilet.

Authorities had been called to the scene by a woman who heard an earlier explosion and saw a truck fleeing.

Police caught up with the truck and say the driver admitted he and friends had been setting off explosives at the job site. Officers then found the toilet bomb.

The four 18- and 19-year-old men are charged with criminal trespassing, criminal damaging and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance. Huron’s police chief says he doesn’t think they meant to hurt anyone.
